Hemipteran Bug-Species Unknown |
Yesterday, Herb and I went up to check our trail cameras at the upper Powers Creek Canyon. There were no pictures on the memory cards. I suspect that I had not set one of the cameras properly on my last visit, over a week ago but in any case, there were no tracks of large animals on the trail.
The first picture is of possibly some kind of Assassin Bug that was moving quite actively among the low-growing mosses and lichens on the valley
slope. I have submitted a photo of it to E Fauna, in hopes of learning its
identity.

Buckwheat, species unknown |
Wild flowers were blooming in profusion. I
have attached pictures of some of those that were new for the area this season, having identified them to the best of my ability. Corrections and suggestions will be much appreciated.

Kinnikinick, or Bearberry, is a plant that will be
familiar to many people as ground cover used around their homes. Its beautiful
little bell-like flowers are often overlooked.
