Today, I hiked in Glen Canyon Park. Several flowers (new to me for this season) were blooming. The trumpet-shaped blue flowers of Shrubby Penstemon add another shade of colour to the steep, rocky places

-- and in moist places near the creek, two kinds of violets are blooming, the Early Blue Violets and white Canada Violets.

Chocolate Lillies are also blooming in abundance near the creek, especially near the new bridge.

I lay flat on my back to take the picture of the inside of the chocolate Lily blossom.

Nearby, in a tree-shaded area, Blue Clematis blossoms have appeared--so far just near the ground but soon the vines will have climbed up into the trees.

At the edge of the meadow a few wild Blue Irises are still blooming

and in the partially shaded areas are white blossoming False Solomon's Seal

and yellow Arnica which superficially resembles Arrow-leaved Balsamroot but Arnica is much smaller.

Powers Creek is now in spate, its banks filled with water from the spring snow melt.

I wonder if we can now get past the recent slide on Glenrosa Road? My favorite hikes are in the upper Powers Creek area and I intend to drive up there tomorrow, to have a look at the situation.
